Fostering
Requirements:
You must live within 40 minutes of Red Deer. That is where our vet partners are, along with our facility and all the supports we have available.
Any existing pets in the home must be spayed or neutered*
You will have an easier time fostering if you have a space available where foster pets can be separated from existing pets if necessary (this isn’t a hard and fast requirement, but will dictate the type of fostering you are able to do)
*If your pet is not yet fixed for a health or age-related reason, please reach out and we can discuss whether or not you would still be able to foster

Foster homes are an integral part of our rescue operations. The more homes we have available, the more animals we can say yes to in their time of need. We supply everything you need and pay for all the vet care. You supply the daily care and love! Food, crates, leashes, collars, dishes, toys, bedding, and treats are all things we can give to you for your foster pet.
Your responsibilities include:
Daily care and monitoring
Keeping in touch with us about any health or behavioural concerns
Providing pictures and personality information for adoption purposes
Transporting to and from the vet as needed
Picking up supplies from pick up locations
There are so many kinds of foster opportunities, all you need is the desire to help, and the willingness to put in the work. Take a look through to get an idea of what is needed!
CATS
Feral kittens between the ages of 3-8 months. (Approximately 1-4 month commitment).
Kittens without a mom between the ages of 6 weeks and 3 months (approximately 2-3 week commitment)
Kittens without a mom under the age 6 weeks (2-8 week commitment). This may require around the clock care and bottle feeding (under 4 weeks)
Kittens with a mom under 8 weeks (2-8 week commitment). Requires a separate space where they can be separate from other pets.
Pregnant mom cat (8-12 week commitment). Requires a separate space where they can be separate from other pets.
Sick or injured cat, non-contagious to other cats. (2 week – 3 month commitment). May require vet appointments and medication administration.
Sick cat that would be contagious to other cats. (2 week-3 month commitment). Would require either a cat free home or a shop/garage/basement where they cat could be kept completely separate from other cats. May require vet appointments and medication administration.

DOGS
1-2 apparently healthy puppies between the ages of 6 weeks-4 months-quarantine foster. (Typically a 2-4 week commitment).
A litter of puppies with a mom between the age of 2-8 weeks (2-8 week commitment). This requires you to have a separate space for mom and babies away from other pets if needed. A shop/garage or basement is ideal.
A pregnant mom or mom with a litter under 2 weeks old (8-12 week commitment). This requires you to have a separate space for mom and babies away from other pets. A shop/garage or basement are ideal
A litter of puppies without a mom under 4 weeks (4-8 week commitment). This would be a bottle-feeding situation which would require around the clock care.
A litter of puppies without a mom between 4-8 weeks (2-4 week commitment). Should not require night feedings.
An apparently healthy mature dog with an unknown health/behavioural history-quarantine foster (2-4 week commitment). This requires that you have the ability to keep the dog segregated from all other pets/children if necessary.
An adult dog with a medical issue (recovering from surgery, broken bone, illness, etc). Commitment time varies.
A puppy with a medical issue (parvo/distemper recovery, recovering from surgery, mange, etc). Commitment time varies.
