We have many success stories to share! Here are some
of them:
 |
We were fortunate to foster Tucker (formerly Buddy) from Jim @ Klassic Kennels to see if he would be a good fit for our family. After one month of fostering, we made the decision to adopt him and am so glad we did.
He was approximately 1 ½ then and is about 6 years old now.
Tucker is a wonderful addition to our family. He splits his time between my son’s house where he is very gentle with my granddaughter and our house where we have two other dogs. He is great buddies with both of them as well.
It took him quite a while to settle in with us but once he decided to, he is a very affectionate boy.
He loves to go for walks, both on and off leash.
I am so glad there are places such as Klassic Kennels finding forever homes for animals needing a second chance.

Hi Janet,
Faith is doing so good; she completed her obedience classes last week and she just loved it. Her favorite thing was basic agility she loved it! Faith is a littermate of Dot and Teagan.
I sent in a DNA test to see what breeds were in Faith and the result were...
Level 4 each (11 - 19%):
Level 5 each (less than 10%):
|
Chihuahua,
Dachshund, English Setter,
English Springer Spaniel,
Mastiff
Parson Russell Terrier,
Boston Terrier
|
Here of some pictures of her and hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely, Katie

| This puppy was Morley when she was in care! |
Morley was much loved by a boy, but circumstances dictated that she be rehomed. Morley is loved by her new family, and her name is now Lucy. |

Hi...we adopted Max 7 years ago from Paws&Claws in Red Deer. He and his sister were found on the highway near Hobbema around the age of 5 weeks old.
Max has been a great addition to are family, he is a loving fun dog. When he entered our home he became very attached to my son who was 14years old at the time.
Max and my son are best friends...he is a watch dog, lap dog (he thinks), and a big baby dog...haha.
Thanks Cindy, Des, Chad |

Hi Jodi,
“Felicity” stuck, it was just simply who she was with her beautiful black coat.
Felicity has been with me for over a year now and is a completely different girl than the timid dog I brought home in October 2008. When she came home she was frightened of everything and everyone and would hide or clinging to my side for assurance.
She has grown so much; she will explore new things, plays like a puppy and is even discovering getting brave enough to play tug with me. Everyone that meets her thinks she is the sweetest and most gentle little creature and I know it’s true. Every morning I am greeted with kisses and snuggles at the side of the bed…. if it wasn’t for that darn porcupine she caught…. oh well. She loves to plays full-on rough-and-tumble with our newest edition Samson the puppy (from the Red Deer SPCA)…. They are the best of buddies. Walks are her favorite thing and we do lots of them and with Sam in the house now she has lost all that ‘sausage’ weight and is looking absolutely amazing. She is such a happy little girl she literally prances when we go for a walk.
Felicity’s confidence is still growing and every time she takes another step it’s a victory. Oh ya, we are also learning she can be a little mischief maker, she loves to get the puppy into trouble…as if he needs help.
Thanks for keeping her safe till the timing was right for me to come and adopt her, this is where she belongs!

Hi Shannon! Just a quick update for you on Wolfie, now Koa. What a joy and blessing he is our to our family. He is definitely a gentle giant. Full of kisses and snuggles. Loves his walks, although he has slowed down and showed great patience with me as I am due with our son in 2.5 weeks and can't quite waddle as fast as I used too. He goes with me everywhere he can. His tail is always wagging and I swear he smiles. He is good with the Cat, Chance, my rescue 8yr old Kitty from Medicine Hat. They have a morning routine of greeting each other after a nights sleep and she lets him know when it is time to play and when it is time to rest. Once a week he goes to doggy daycare to socialize with other dogs and have his really big run. The picture I have attached is after our walk the other day. He had also been to daycare that day and was very exhausted. Barely keeping his eyes open that evening from playing so hard. Koa travels well and has been camping in the states. My husband works away a lot and when he is gone Koa faithfully sleeps each night in the front window waiting for him to return. Upon Kirks return Koa runs around barking and wagging his tail joyfully. It's always amusing to watch. He then returns to sleeping on his big pillow and blanket on Kirks side of the bed. As you can see by his picture he is a big boy. I often get stopped while walking him because people always want to know what type of dog he is with such beautiful markings. The vet's guess is Lab Shepherd X but we don't really know. Thank you again for allowing us to adopt him into our family. Koa has filled our lives with a lot of happiness and joy.

Hi Tish,
This is Margaret...I am the one who adopted Bella (Robyn) from Paws
and Claws. I just throught I would send you an email and say hello
and let you know Bella is doing ok. She is a funny dog at times and
still does some wierd things. We have done some obedience training
but like with all animal/people relationships there are some quirks. :)
Bella is a city dog now as I got transfered through work last year and
we moved to Red Deer. We don't go to the dog park very often as she
has decided she does not like meeting random dogs and likes to chase /
confront the dogs there...but we go daily for our walks.
I thought I would attach this picture and let you see how she is.
These were taken out at Buffalo lake last weekend. She really likes
the water and chasing after sticks...she doesn't ever bring them back
to me easily...but she likes chasing them.

I can't remember if I've already sent photos in but I'd like to give an update about our boy Ollie. We adopted Ollie, formerly Buckwheat of the Lil' Rascals in summer 2006. We trained him ourselves and he has turned out to be a very handsome, generally well-behaved dog. He loves physical attention and prefers the attention of dog owners that we meet in the park as opposed to the dogs. He has been an wonderful addition to our lives and I can't imagine life without him. He's also an excellent field work and camping companion.
I would really like to find out what became of other pups from his litter. I hope this update will encourage other Lil Rascal owners to post updates.
Thank you Paws & Claws for giving us this wonderful gift. I hope to add more dogs to our family one day and regularly check the website for adoptions.

My boyfriend and I adopted Bowser (aka Marley) in 2007. ; his mom was Bonsey .Anyways, on the Happy Ending page there is one of Marley sister and the family that adopted her was looking to hear how some of the litter was doing. Would you be able to provide me with the family’s email address?
PS. Marley is such a sweet dog, we love him so much. Chris and I often comment how lucky we are to have such a wonderful dog. I have attached a few pictures
Thanks

Hi Tish,
We have been wanting to send in some pictures of Acer (formerly Abbott) for a while. Honestly it was a little difficult because we have so many great pictures. He is such a handsome boy we can't resist.
He has been a huge part of our life and we couldn't be happier with him. He loves all his doggy relatives and likes nothing more than going to work with dad and getting to ride around on the golf cart. We look forward to many happy years with our little guy.
Thanks for everything

I wanted to give an update for the website. We adopted Dizzy......now Griffin.. almost 3 weeks ago. He is settling in nicely with the family. He has brought out the best in our 9 year old Corgi Baron. At first Griffin wasn't really sure what Baron was trying to do but within a few days he figured that the name of the game is PLAY! PLAY! PLAY! We live in the country and there is a cut line nearby that is very safe for dogs to run and be dogs. At the end of the cut line is a lake that adds to the fun!
The photos I have sent were taken yesterday after the ``boys`` had a very busy day at the SPA. As you can see....Griffin is very tired from his excursion but is plotting already on how and where to get good and dirty again. The SPA was nice he says but real dogs need to play in the mud!
Griffin is a delightful addition to our household and I want to thank Shasta and the rest of PAWS and CLAWS for the wonderful work they do. Someone has obviously taught Griffin some good manners and we look forward to starting obedience classes soon!

This is from the wonderful family who adopted our Bartok, now June. Bartok was a half-grown dog who has been abused, and had to be live-trapped in order to catch her. She needed a special home with people willing to work with her special needs. She got that home this summer (2009)!
 |
Hi again Janet,
Another update on June – she’s doing great. I am now able to let her run and play off leash at the offleash dog park. She comes back to me nicely when I call her and doesn’t stray too far. She is the social coordinator for the park – greeting every dog and asking if they want to play. She LOVES to play with other dogs! We are lucky enough to live close to the park so we get to go there twice a day. We are starting obedience classes tomorrow.
I’m attaching some photos of her for you.
Take care,
Kim |

I just wanted to update your organization on our lovely Sadie.
We adopted Sadie (aka Mercedes) in 2006 from Paws and Claws Animal Rescue.
I can’t tell you how many positive remarks I have received on behalf of Sadie. The comments range from her being the smartest dog they have ever met to the kindest. I am extremely proud of her and love an opportunity to tell people the story of how she found her way into our hearts. Her personality, her intelligence, and love of all animals, truly makes her one of a kind.
I can’t thank Paws and Claws enough for giving us the opportunity to have Sadie in our lives, she truly is a blessing. Thank you.
-The Gelinas Family

We adopted Flurrie through Jodi in the summer of 2007. She was from Bonsey's litter and when we met her she was too cute to resist! Flurrie is now Nala and is doing fantastic! She grew into a 70 lb dog with lots of personality. She has always been a very good girl, but is a little nervous and shy. Nala became a big sister in April when Rick and I had our first baby, a healthy boy we named Shaemus. Nala has loved him from day one and her only fault is she is a bit overprotective! (Of course now that Shaemus is eating finger food, Nala can be found under the table waiting for him to fling her a treat!) Shaemus is now crawling and pulling up and Nala has endless patience being used as a jungle gym!! Thanks to everyone who makes paws and claws possible, because of you we have Nala in our lives! I see that there have been updates about a couple of Nala's brothers, I would love to hear more of how they are doing and anything about the rest of the litter and Bonesy. My sister knows someone in Calgary who seems to have a pup from Bonesy's previous litter... my sister picked her out in a picture, she looks that much like Nala!! Bonesy sure makes cute pups!
I hope that 2009 treats you and the animals well.
All the Best!
P.S.
We had Nala spayed she was 6 months old... we obviously want to donate the $100 deposit back to you guys.

This is our happy ending story about Sadie (Collins was her original name)
We moved to Blackfalds in april and bought are first home. We always said that once we had a house with a nice yard, that we would adopt a dog. I was on the web site and I saw her picture and fell in love with her right away. I applied and waited for the news, at first we were told that an other couple was going to see her, it was longest day of my life and I was really hoping that we would get the chance to adopt her. It turned out the other couple went with a different dog and we got are wish. The kids didn't know that we were going to get her and when we came out of the house with her they were all smiling! She has been a wonderful girl and we are proud to say that she is a big part of are family.
thank you paws and claws from the Blair family

I have had Scout (formerly Holly) now for 14 months. A better dog I've never met!! I have been able to teach this amazing dog 41 hand signals. Its hard though, I have to get her off my lap first!! Scout is a fun-loving clown, who loves to make us laugh. She loves to play with her rope toys, shaking them to "kill" as any good terrier should! Everyone who meets her falls in love. I've also been doing some pet therapy with her at a group home where the clients there just love her and just love that she's not "normal" either. Scout is an ambassador for deaf dogs, and adult rescues, she was 4 when I adopted her, and she has learned so much! This weekend we will be doing a demo on deaf dogs at the Bark at the Bend. We will be trying to teach people that deaf dogs are not a "problem" in fact, Scout is the most attentive, loyal, intelligent dog I've ever met, her deafness is not an issue for her, in fact with her protective streak, its kind of a blessing as she'd probably be barking at every little noise if she could hear them. All in All, I don't think I could have found a better dog if I'd tried for a year and got a perfect puppy. Scout has never messed in the house and aside from her occasional garbage search, she has perfect house manners. Its hard to believe this dog was almost euthanized and then spent months with Paws and Claws, as no one wanted to take a chance on a deaf dog! Perfect dogs are overrated! I wish more people would consider adopting dogs that aren't "perfect puppies" they have as much or more to give, bond as strongly, or stronger, and are just as great a pet. Thanks Tish, for seeing the potential in a deaf dog that no one wanted, and for taking her in, when no else would, from a date with the needle

Hi Shannon,
Just thought I'd let you know how Ty is doing, we've changed his name to Moab though. He is growing daily and into everything, just like a puppy should! We absolutely love him! He has a great personality and loves to play with our neighbours dogs.
As you can tell from the picture Moab (Ty) is getting big! He's doing great, starts obedience school next week and is getting neutered on Monday. Thanks so much! all the same.

Here is a little update on Ragweed who is now named Snoop. Snoop is fitting in very well into our home. The cats no longer hate him but they tolerate him except for when he eats their food! Lucy now has a perma grin and she and snoop play constantly.Lucy keeps him in line most of the time. I take him to the dog bark and he loves to run and play with the other dogs. He is growing like a ‘Ragweed’ but hopefully he won’t get too big. He is a very smart boy and he is learning my schedule quite well. He loves his chewy bones but I have to buy him the 10” ones or he inhales them. The big ones last him a day and that is if he doesn’t bury it in the backyard garden. All in all I’m glad to have him. He is good company for Lucy and me. He is a big suck and he needs hugs often, he snuggles his head around and under my arm for a hug and when he is done he gives me kisses and then runs off to play. At bedtime he insists on sleeping in my bed. I have gave up on trying to stop him. So to sum things up he is a brat and Snoop is the perfect name for him but I love him all the same.

In march of last year we sadly lost one of our dogs, her name was Rave and she was a wonderful friend. Her passing brought much sadness to our house… Both for the people in it as well as for Daisy the dog she left behind… Daisy became quite depressed and was moping around the house… As were the rest of us… Rave was originally from a rescue society near Calgary and had been such a wonderful dog that we decided that we wanted to give another rescued animal a home… So we started looking in central Alberta and found Paws and Claws… We looked through the dogs available for adoption and there was the picture of Remington.. It was love at first sight.. He had such a kind face in that picture. We new we wanted him… We went out and met him and then we brought Daisy out to meet him… And right away they started playing together… We took him home that night and it was such a great thing… He has turned out to be a wonderful pet… and a great match for Daisy… They have a great friendship and play constantly…When we first got Remy he was about 6 months old and was a bit shorter than Daisy and was only about 40 pounds.. But now at about 11 months he is much taller than her and out weighs her by 10 pounds tipping the scales at 82 Pounds…. He is a very big boy and still has the clumsy puppyness about him… Thanks you Paws and Claws you do a great job……. Remington has brought smiles back to our home and our Daisy.... |

We adopted O'Brien (Reggie) in July 2008, after he had been living with Shasta for a few months.
He is the most amazing loyal dog anyone could every wish for, he is a real character, he loves running about on the prairie chasing rabbits and flies (he never catches them) and he goes with the army boys out on to the Suffield block which he loves because he gets a lot of attention.
Reggie is a big dog, at 6 months he is almost 70lbs and is getting very heavy to lift in to the back of the car (he won't jump in). On his pet passport he has been declared a 'Canadian Prairie Dog' because no one really knows what mix of breeds he is! His favourite place is lying on the doorstep and his favourite toy is his hedgehog! He sleeps on his back with his paws in the air and only sleeps on the bed when his Daddy is away!
He is very cuddly, he loves being brushed and still has a lot of loose skin to grow in to! The vet said 'he'll pull sledges' and he has 'veins like hosepipes!' His girlfriend is 2 months older than him and is a retreiver / mountain dog cross called Macy. His best friend is our 11 month old daughter Ophelia. |

We adopted Skye in April of 2006 when she was just a baby. Here she is today a full grown very happy dog. She is the biggest baby ever, even though I have 3 teenage children I call her my fourth. She runs downstairs in the morning to do her duty and than goes back upstairs 90% of the time to sleep on my side of the bed. We love her so much she has been a wonderful part of our family. I ask people to please please adopt a dog from a rescue society and not from the pet store. There are so many animals who need good homes. Thanks
Yours sincerely,
Lorna Hansen

We ran into a former Paws and Claws dog at the Bower Mall fundraiser. One of the beauty contestants in the SPCA dog show was Lucy. Lucy was formerly Costello! Lucy now lives in the lap of luxury with her owner, and is a very happy girl.y

Here’sssssssssss Marty!
Well, turns out it wasn’t just the presence of momma that made little Marty fearless. This unstoppable fellow has been described as a friendly old soul and exceptionally confident for his age. He has already completed the basic and advanced obedience, and he enjoys going to daycare once a week to play with all of his canine companions. And he certainly is an individual. We found out he’s mostly a German shepherd / Akita cross from DNA testing (the curly tail gives it away). He turned a year old on April 13th and he’s a handsome boy at 73 lbs, though a little on the short side as he only comes up slightly past my knee (he’s a LONG dog). Marty has such a wonderful disposition, particularly towards other dogs. Thus far he hasn’t met a single one he hasn’t liked. He has quite the following in the neighborhood – a few of the little girls down the street stop by often to visit him. Marty has participated in a couple of Dog Hashes with the Calgary Chapter of the Hash House Harriers; we look forward to upcoming meets as he’s already found a few good play companions. We keep hoping to run into Melissa and family, it’s always fun to run into other Paws and Claws adoptees. The little guy has some challenges, he spent a few days in the vet hospital for some allergy issues we still haven’t figured out and he suffers from separation anxiety issues that we are working through – but otherwise just an all around great fellow. I would like to extend a big thanks to Jodi and Paws and Claws, this little guy has brought such joy to everyone he meets!

Jaxson I one lucky dog. He was adopted by his foster mom! Jaxon lives with his sisters, Hope, Mikka and Chiquita. Mikka and Hope were also adopted from Paws & Claws.

I received Bella two years ago in the spring and boy oh boy she has come a long way...at first she wouldn't even step into my door way...now she thinks everything is hers...we call her houdini because no matter how I trap my yard she figures a way out of it....she loves her walks...but her funnniest quirk would be soon as I am in my car she is on the couch relaxing....(Bad Dog) hehe.....I will catch her sometimes when I run in and forgetten something.....she is still learning that it is ok to play she has since gained a new friend and with her new friend has grown tremendously...she is a sweet, timid girl and great with the kids and really loves to smile when you talk her..she is a pleasure having around.......Thank you and keep up the good work you do there....
This picture is taken last summer the couch she is on is one that got destroyed with a leaky window during a rain storm so we left it there the rest of the summer for her and she got lots of use out of the couch!

Hi I'd just like to give a little update on our courtesy adoption dog "Xena", adopted in December 2007, renamed Kira. I've included a couple pictures, but I don't think they do her full justice. She's a little camera shy, and sometimes assumes a submissive postion and "piddles" when you try to take a good picture of her, so we really have to be sneaky to get some shots of her. Kira is a pretty quiet girl, but loves new people and anyone that will give her pets. She really gets defensive with other dogs, but loves cats. Kira gets lots of compliments about how she is such a pretty girl. She has recently learned how to play tug and fetch, and loved to search for treats hidden in the snow during winter walks. She's a snuggly girl and refuses to go outside for her morning business unless she can come in and havea cuddle on the bed. She also likes to have sing-a-longs with us, howling away like a wolf. We're working on teaching her to balance her treats on her nose, how to point with her paw to pick the right hand with a treat, and how to ignore her treat when it's perched on her paw. Kira also likes to hide her treats around the house...just this morning I found a peanutbutter dog cookie in my laundry, and on more than one occasion have found rawhide bones hidden under pillows, couch cushions, and under carefully positioned books. We're so excited to take her along camping this summer and to see if she likes to go swimming. Thank you so much for our baby girl, she has really become a part of our family.
With lots of slurpy Kira kisses,
Ty Irwin, Jenni Kirk, and Kira
P.S. Could you forward this to Martine so that she can see what a great job she is doing? I bet she likes to see happy ending with her pups. Thanks Martine!!!!

Hi Jody!
I've attached current pics of Sampson (Jergen) and Sunshine (Sunlight).
At first, Sunshine was the instigator and Sampson was the investigator,
however, roles do change with time. Sampson has become the interior decorator (didn't much care for the 1959 sectional, though it
did TASTE good!), landscaper (really, there are NOT enough trees in this
yard, let me dig a few holes where you can plant), and lately the
housecleaning elf (Look, you haven't worn those shoes in 3 years, why keep
them, and besides, look at the dust that WAS building up on them... and
they WERE rather tasty.) Sunshine on the other side is very good at
impishly reinforcing, "I am the GOOD GIRL, I do NO WRONG."
Can't imagine not having these 2 little cuddlebugs ... though they do now
take up more than half the bed; leaving very limited room for the illegal
cat and myself. They are SOOO sociable ... just love everyone and
every-dog they meet. They are the HIT at my mother's assisted living
residence. They went to a resort while Mommy was away for a few weeks and
made LOTS of friends, from Shitsu to Pit Bull ...
THANKS so much for my very special babies!
T.L.

My name is Heather and I'm writing to tell you the journey of Lucas.
I got Lucas when he was 8 weeks old from the Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation. Aftger lots of TLC from us he became energetic and loved kids and anything that would pay attention to him!
Then he got cancer at 7 months. Lucky for him it was skin cancer and it was a simple procedure, but now unfortunately because of puppyhood mange and the cancer, he has a weakened immune system. But that didn't stop this little trooper! After lazing around after surgery he was back to his normal self and bouncing off the walls.
He is such a trooper, doesn't matter what life throws at this brave guy, he just keeps trucking. Plus now that we got another dog, Dodger, it's none stop play time for these two trouble makers! And for whatever reason, his favorite treat at the end of the day is ice cubes! Lucas is now Duke. He deserves the name. PEACE!
P.S. Just note to everyone. I see a lot of dogs loose in the backs of trucks on the highways. This is extremely unsafe, and very traumatic for both the dog and owners when an accident so easily happens. The dog is much safer in the cab or inside a strapped-down crate. They also have dog seatbelts at pet-supply stores!

Sam I adopted "Sam" in December of 2007 and my boyfriend and I have since
re-named him Bud. It suits him as he wants to be everybody's friend! He
is very protective of the home and refuses to let anybody near us if he
doesn't approve first, it's like having another parent in the home!!!
He loves our other dog's food and we constantly have to watch and make
sure they aren't pulling a fast one on us and switching bowls! He is a
very energetic, loving pup... we got him at 14 weeks old and took him
to the vet a day or two later. He weighed just shy of 23Lbs. at that
point. Now, at 22 weeks old, he weighs just over 35Lbs! He's got a ton
of skin and the vet we go to suggested maybe he's got some Bassett
Hound in him, I just hope he grows in to it a bit more!
He is by far the best addition to our family as he is a fast learner
and very willing and capable to do everything we ask of him. He doesn't
like car rides though- as we found out the hard way- but we will work
on that this summer as we plan to take him camping with us! This
picture was taken maybe a month ago and he has since gained 8 Lbs! It's
amazing to think that when we got him he was so tiny I could carry him
around like a small toddler, and now, he could easily pull me in a
sled!!!!
Thank you so much for giving us the greatest blessing of all- a new
addition to the family, and best of all, a new friend.
Sincerely, Kirsten and Jesse
I

Tia We adopted Tia, an adorable chihuahua mix, about 3 months ago. She made herself at home very quickly and we absolutely adore her. She gets along great with her big brother Chazz and she enjoys chasing him around the house. She loves going for walks and has been to the dog park several times where she follows Chazz everywhere. Tia wasn't too pleased with our 2 cats at first but now the 3 of them can often be found sunbathing on the kitchen floor together. She loves tearing around the house playing with her toys, you'd never know that she's 8 years old! Tia is definately a lap dog and is happiest when she's curled up with us on the couch. She loves car rides and came to all the family gatherings this Christmas. The biggest problem we have when we take her with us is that everyone who meets her wants to take her home with them! We'd like to thank Tia's foster mom, Tish, for taking care of Tia and allowing us to adopt her.
-Margorie, Anthony, Chazz and Tia

Gulliver Gulliver came to his furever home approximately one week before Christmas '07. Very soon after we had him, we gave him the name "Dexter". Dexter started out as a shy pup...however, his two older sisters..Sadie and Echo have taught him that there is no time for being shy. Our three dogs are like 3 peas in a pod. Dexter was meant to be in our home. He is the most loving and affectionate dog. He loves his morning cuddles and doesn't miss any chance he has to steal our socks. He is quite enamoured by our cats and enjoys sniffing and licking them when they dare to come near. Dexter has made numerous friends over the past few months. His girlfriend Katie lives in Edmonton, so when he can't see her..he plays with his two big sisters and all of his friends here in town. Playing tag in the school field with Hubble, Isabelle, and Finnigan is one of his favorite outtings. His all time favorite though is when he gets to spend time chasing his dad and sisters down the trails...dad rides the dirt bike and the 3 musketeers chase him. What fun!
We are so fortunate to have come across such a perfect dog. We are enjoying every moment of his puppyhood...and look forward to seeing him grow into the BIG dog we know he will be. Paws and lLaws is to thank for rescueing such deserving animals! Koodos to Michelle for being such a great foster mom and for entrusting us with the care of this special little boy!

Today i met a woman who almost immediately recognized my girl Vera. we got Vera at the end of november from the red deer SPCA. we knew that she had come from the olds college and that they had altered her there before they sent her to red deer. but we had zero history on her before that. the lady i met referred to Vera as Emerald. i found her mom, Opal, on your site and i'm surprised to see that Opal looks like she's got some german shepard characteristics. for whatever reason, i can't view Vera's or her sisters' puppy pictures. if you have any further info on vera and her sisters, could you please email me back? we would love more background info on our girl, especially puppy pics!! the happy ending is that since we took her home, Vera has filled out very nicely. all her ribs were visible thru her skin when we got her, but in a little over a month she's put on ten pounds, all of which look great on her. She was a dream to housetrain (we suspected that someone had spent time training her before) and she has a lot of patience for my two high energy toddlers. She is very friendly but also very perceptive about any potential threat to my kids, and so is very protective in certain situations. we're looking forward to many years with her, and i would be happy to 'snail mail' an updated picture of her for your happy endings page (as i'm technologically challenged!) Thank you for taking care of Vera as a pup; she was meant for our family, and without your organization we never would've found her.Sincerely,Charis Burton

Camilla I have attached a photo of Camilla that was taken shortly after she came to us.
She is a lovely sweet girl and we love having her! She was very needy at first for affection - always wanting/needing to be in someone's lap for hugs and attention. But she quickly learned that we weren't going anywhere and she settled down.
Her favorite game is the flashlight and it keeps her amused for hours if possible! She also loves her walks and will get right in our faces and remind us if we don't take her out regularly! All the best to you and the organization in 2008! Regards, Colleen Lill

Toffee It was at this time of year 3 years ago where I learned miracles at Christmas time do happen.
One day while I was living on my own, a lady noticed me wandering around by a school looking for food. It happened to be a Paws and Claws volunteer and for reasons I still dont understand took me into her care. Seven months later I was adopted by my foster dad! Finally
I had my forever home, only home I ever knew.
Three years later,
I am a good looking dog! I have grown up, all 85+ pounds of me, I am healthy and strong with a small belly and a chest the size of Texas. My appetite and heart are equally as big as well.
My name is Toffee, I have two nick names though. Master calls me by my foster name Toffee sometimes, yet he has dreamed up some other names as well. He calls me Toff for short, or Toffalafagus. Toffalafagus? Big toffee colored creature from Sesame Street named Snuffalufagus that loved kids and all creatures. Neighbors laugh when Master calls me this, as they know it is a stupid name but a very fitting one. I have included a picture of myself, I am on the left and my buddy Chia is on the right! I would like to thank everyone at Paws and Claws for my Christmas Miracle.
Sincerely,
Toffee

Skyy A few years ago, my hubby & I decided to become a Foster Home for Paws & Claws. I was raised on a farm with lots of large dogs and animals around so I was really looking forward to embracing my love for animals and becoming a part of the Paws & Claws organization. One day shortly after joining, we got news that there was a puppy coming back from Calgary that had been adopted out a few months before, however due to some unfortunate circumstances of her new owners, they were unable to keep her. Within the day, the five month old was brought to our home, with sad brown eyes and the biggest ears you ever saw! My hubby was sure she could even hear what we were thinking! She immediately stole our hearts, and we adopted her ourselves once we realized we couldn't possibly part with her.
Skyy (formerly Meeka) is a very smart, active and loving girl. She loves playing and cuddling, herding the cat, swimming, and we have clocked her running speed at 55 km/hr! She does everything with us including long car trips back to Saskatchewan, camping and quading! We love her dearly and she is one of the best additions we've made to our family.

Adidas Hi Jodi, I hope you remember me, my name is Leah and I adopted Adidas. I just thought that I would give you an update on him. The little guy is now 60 pounds and he is just the sweetest boy ever...his name is Axel now, and is just a going concern, but very smart. Jersey my 3 year old adopted dog took on the parenting role with him and she taught him a lot, potty training was very easy, which is nice. Now Axel is bigger than Jersey and still growing, vet says he will probably be about 100 pounds. I am attaching before and after pictures of him and thought I would let you know he is up to date with his shots and goes in for the "big"> operation next Friday..... Thanks Leah

Paws and Claws would like to thank K. Watson for donating Emmy's spay refund to Paws and Claws so that we can spay another dog with it.
Emmy Here is a semi recent pic of Emmy. I believe she was 6m in that photo. She is 9m now, but basically looks the same. This little dog is so sweet and funny. I forget at times that she is even a puppy for she is so well behaved and obedient. I couldn't ask for a better dog. Her fav things to do seem to be playing with her fellow dog friends and running around in the snow. She has even learned to smile.
Have a great holiday. And thanks again for my amazing dog.

Rawlins We adopted Rawlin's July of this year. We kept her name because she
already responded really well to it. Our home was really empty after
having to put down our other puppy. Rawlins was the runt of the litter
so she is still pretty small. Thankfully, because she is very strong
willed, I don't
think she cares that she is smaller than all of the dogs she plays with. She has become our little Princess. She will be going
for her training in January but doesn't need much, she's pretty well
trained. My one Cat is her best friend now as you can see in the pic.
They are almost inseparable. She was spayed today and the vet says she
is in top shape, now weighing 45 lbs. Thanks Paws & Claws for helping us
complete our family. Thanks Jodi for not keeping her. Carolin, Terry, Mason & Tristan

Dear Paws and Claws: I was doing my weekly Paws and Claws website check and clicked on the Courtesy Adoptions; there staring back was a beautiful kind face of a Great Pyrenese.
I was HOOKED – line and sinker. I phoned Jim and got the particulars on her, and then kept checking back to see if she was taken. As a family we had already fallen in love with “Willow” before we met her, so I made an appointment, took the kids up to Jim’s place and there she was – about 15 minutes later she was sheared and put in the car for her trip “home”.
We LOVE her and how “mushy” she is – if there is an object to lean against – you will only have to wait a second before Miss Willow will be slump down next to it, or on it (including the couch, the bed, the kitchen chairs etc..). My other Pyrenese – Harvey, loves her to bits – they play fight and wrestle like professionals and snuggle together – he lets her eat at the bowl first (just like a gentleman). As you can see from the picture – she is TOTALLY settled in! So thank you Paws and Claws and Jim – She is happy, healthy, and at home! So I wish you and yours and all the people that foster/adopt these wonderful animals – a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year. Sincerely Dawn, Tibor, Taylor, Connor, Bailey, Maggie, Harvey, Dominoe and Willow

Bowser I have attached a couple of pictures of Marley (aka Bowser) from when we first brought him home and up until a month and ago. Marley is such a wonderful puppy. He is very cuddly and love to meet people and other dogs. He love going to the farm and to the off leash park;where he loves to play with every dog he meets. He just was neutered on Friday and had a dew claw removed. The girls at the vet put a pink bandage on his foot, it was so cute!! I saw that Bonesy was adopted, that is so wonderful. My boyfriend and I thought she was a great dog and mom!! Thank you again Ashley

Missy has been a wonderful addition to our family since we adopted her last summer. She’s so smart and loving and has such a great spirit. She loves going to the off leash dog park everyday. Our son and Missy had a great time at the Kids n’ K9’s agility classes. Thank you Paws & Claws for helping to bring Missy into our lives.
The Priest Family

Diamond Here is an updated picture of Reika ("Diamond" of the Jewelry Boutique when she was adopted). She is an active and loving pup who made herself at home day one and has been a wonderful addition to our family. She loves going for walks and running through the tall grass at the off leash area.Thought you might like to see a picture of Storm, formally Donzie. He is a wonderful, wonderful puppy. I am not sure if the whole litter is as smart as he, but what a great pup.

Winslee Winslee is wonderful! She has made an excellent companion for our puppy Cannon. She is very sweet and very loyal. She likes to be anywhere that we are and follows us around the house. She has enjoyed spending time outside with Cannon and especially when she gets to be off the leash at the park. She will be a wonderful addition to our family. Thank you so much and especially to Jodi who has taken such wonderful care of this amazing girl! Jackie and Chad

Cashmere Here are some updated pictures of Cashmere!
We never changed her name because Cashmere suited her. She was and still is (at least in some places) as soft as cashmere. By the pictures you can see how big her ears are, everyone comments on them. There for a while it looked like only one was going to stay up. She has such a calm and good nature about her which is really wonderful to have around the house. Anyway just thought I would give you an update on how she is doing, please if you could let Jennifer know how she is and maybe a copy of the pictures. Paws and Claws would like to thank the Rachs for Donating their Spay/Neuter deposit to us so we can use it to alter another dog in our system!
Thanks from all the Rachs

Whiskey I just wanted to say thank you to everyone at Paws and Claws Animal Rescue. I adopted Kovu (aka "Whiskey" from the Booze hounds) in July and we have had so much fun together. He comes to work with me everyday and we pretty much go everywhere together. We have finished up our second obediance class with the Cochrane Humane society and have learned so much! Kovu is so smart though, it didn't take much effort to teach him how to be a well-mannered little man. Once a week he goes to Daycare at Pawsitively pooched and he loves romping around with all the other dogs, and it gives me a break! I am so happy he has entered my life and I know it would not be possible without the great start he was given by the foster parents at Paws and Claws Animal Rescue....

Roswell is doing great! He loves to fetch and is bringing back pretty good. I am proud to have such a nice dog. Roswell is very quiet and does not bark much. He still does get along with the shitzhu, and in fact when he can't find him, he is lost!
Dave

Thought you would like some updated pictures of Wario...now known as Mack. He is an amazing dog. Very good temperament and very loving. He starts Puppy Kindergarten on November 6th. Our family is happy to have such a fantastic addition! The vet says he's very healthy, and we can expect a VERY LARGE dog. He is expected to reach about 125 pounds! Good thing we are moving to an acreage!
Falon, Keean, Leeah, Taedon & Mack

We had been looking for months and months for a new addition to our family. After searching and searching, we just about got to the point of giving up. And then I came accross the Paws and Claws Courtesy Adoptions page. I took a look, and about half way down the page was a shy, innocent-looking little boston terrier. We called up Jim DeBoon, and asked about the dog, but he said that there was someone else coming out to look at him and our chances were slim. Later that evening, he called us back, and said that the person who had looked at him wanted to come back again with their signifigant other to get the dog. Jim however, told us that if we really wanted him, we could come out and get him as soon as we had time. So what did we do? We got up early the next morning, and drove out to Klassic Kennels, hoping and praying that this little guy was still there. And to our greatest luck, he still was. It didn't take long for us to fall in love with Tuffy. He came running out of the Kennel with such energy and personality, it was unbeleivable that he had even ended up there in the first place. There was no doubt at all in our minds that we would take Tuffy home with us.
Tuffy has been a member of the family for five months now, and we all couldn't be happier. Tuffy was quite small when we first took him home, and now he has bulked up so much, and his personality has really come out. We take him for walks all the time, and recently we got him an oversized ball to play with, which he absolutely loves. He runs and runs, and has so much fun at the park. He is such a happy dog, and i am now convinced that we were meant to find him. He brings so much joy to our lives, and with his high-energy personality, he really keeps us active. We would like to personally thank Jim DeBoon for his help, because without that quick, simple phone call on a summer evening, our lives would be a lot different today. It really goes to show that he is in it for the animals, and nothing else. Thanks again Jim.

I wanted to add an addition to our family so we brought
Lincoln home in September of 2006. Lincoln and Riley hit it off right away and have been the best of pals since. Cheechoo (cat) on the other hand might not agree to being Lincoln's best friend, but they do get along great and even play together. Lincoln is a handful though at times, his new adventure is stealing things off the counter. So now, Lincoln is being trained that he is not allowed on the counters at any time or the kitchen table for that matter. What a sight to see, a 65 pound dog standing on your kitchen table acting like he is doing nothing wrong ("What Mom, aren't I cute"). But we LOVE him to death. Riley is 7 years old but they can play for hours together, sometimes they are quite loud when they play and the house becomes an agility course. However, Lincoln has been a great addition to our home and has brought many fun times into our lives. We would not change his personality for the world. Lincoln is one happy-go-lucky dog. I am so happy that Jodi decided we would be the better fit for Lincoln, as we could not agree more. Thanks Paws and Claws for what you do.
Chantal, Ryan, Riley, Lincoln and Cheechoo.

Hi Jodi do you remember our little Maggie, formally Corona! We promised you some pics. and finally got them together along with our cat AKA "Holy Terror" (Charlie) who keeps Maggie on her toes. We love them dearly and Maggie is doing so well. All vet stuff is done now except spaying which happens in November. Poor little girl isn't going to appreciate being slowed down like that. Anyway just want to thank you again and keep up the great work you all do. God Bless, Maria and Dale Nobert.

April 15, 2008 This is just a little up date on Storm, formally Donzi. My boy is the best doggy in the world! He is so smart and handsome. Has grown to be a beautiful boy. Storm is already nine months old 66lbs.
He has a good life and has made mine even better. Wanted to tell you again how much I admire the work you all do and to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Kind Regards,
Jodie Morrison
Nov 1/07 Update - Thought you might like to see a picture of Storm, formally Donzie. He is a wonderful, wonderful puppy. I am not sure if the whole litter is as smart as he, but what a great pup.
Storm can sit and shake a paw. He is house trained. We have a dog door and he will use it to go out and do his pee and poop.
We go to Puppy school November and he already will be ahead. Just need to work on the come part.
I was quite sad when I heard about Storms mom. I am so glad that we found each other.
Sep 25/07 Update: Good Morning,
It is a beautiful day! I can not thank you enough for letting me have "Storm" formerly Donzi.
Yes the name is perfect for him. My mother helped choose this name, we all loved it including Storm. He will come when called so I know he is happy with this name and it suites him perfectly. The family is settled in nicely. Katie ( brown doggy) is mothering Storm and
teaching him well. Nikki (white) has finally let Storm chip monk hunt and lay down together, so Storm really enjoys this. Storm is able to come (80%) heheh, Sit, sleeps all through the night and makes it out in the am for pee and poop. He is the smartest pup ever. I am going to take him to puppy class after his spay and shots are done. Then Nikki and storm will go to obedience class together with husband and me. It will be good for all of us. I just want too make sure you know how much I appreciate the chance to have Storm in my life. It has really made me feel good. I am the lucky one to have him. Thank you! You organization is top notch and will try to support you as best I can. Kind Regards,
Jodie, Katie, Nikki and Storm

We adopted Lady, now Diesel, about a year ago. We are so happy and grateful to have her in our lives. She loves going for walks everyday, especially in the cold snow, and playing with the cats in the backyard. Although I don't think the cats like that much. We love the fact that she's up for anything anywhere as long as she's with us. Diesel is well travelled as she's been to Kelowna, she loved the lakes. We even got her a life jacket and put her on a row boat. I think she was a little scared, but you'll never hear her complaining. She's even been as far as camping up at 100 Mile House. Her next adventure might be going on a ferry to Victoria to visit her grandma and favourite furry friend Max. Diesel's favourite thing though, other than going to three mile bend, is going on one of our crazy hikes in the rockies. One of the pictures I've enclosed is us at Siffileur falls. She went right across the suspended bridge without any hesitation, she wasn't even afraid of the rushing falls. Which was why she was on a leash the whole time, crazy dog. We got her a backpack so now she can work up to carrying her own stuff instead of us lugging it around. She passed dog training, which I think they let us pass because they didn't want us back....Ha Ha. She can now "sit", "lay down", "beg", and "speak", among many other things. Sure she only listens when she wants to and has mastered the art of talking back to you when She's in trouble. Even jumps over the fence to visit her friend Echo uninvited, and eventually gets passed back when their done playing. Begs ever so quietly for food from her daddy, because she knows she'll get something when mommy's not looking. Not to mention the fact that the energizer bunny is her distant cousin, but she's a HUSKY and I love her all the more for it. Diesel and I finally want to thank shannon for taking such excellent care of her. Because you opened your heart up to take Diesel in, she had the chance of a bright future. Without people like you animals would not get the second chance they so deserve. Thank you so much Shannon, and everyone else at Paws and Claws for everything you do. Jennifer, Ryan, and a big kiss from Diesel.

We adopted Georgina who we named Mojo who is doing great...we passed our training! She is really doing well and is so a part of my family. Her and my roomate are best buds now and she has won everyone over. Her fur has really softened and she has filled out quite nicely. She is best friends with Samson (my brothers dog) and they play together often. Tripper is a good big brother and she looks up to him and loves him dearly. She's even quite close with two of my cats and they like to rub up against her and she'll nudge and play with them with her nose. Mojo got her first professional haircut just before the long weekend in August and she looks great! Lots of people have commented how healthy and happy she looks. We went away to Montana in June and they both loved it....Mojo likes the water as long as it is calm..she is still kinda a scaredy cat in certain situations.

We adopted Sabre a year and half ago and he is our big baby….. We love him so much, he is the best dog we have ever had!!! He has a great personality, and is so goofy. He loves being around us, loves the water (any puddle he can find he will find it! MUD and all). The dog park is his favorite place all the dogs to play with as well as the little river that runs down at the bottom where he likes to go and have a splash and then shake off right beside me J. He is a great companion; he can’t stand being without us! He is always beside us or on top of us (the whole 85 pounds of him…… he thinks he is a lap dog). WE LOVE him!! Thank you so much for rescuing his mom and giving us Sabre.

Yukon We adopted "Yukon" December 3, 2006. He is almost a year old now and has been the cutest addition to our family yet! We renamed him Henry, and sometimes call him Hank for short. He loves to go to three mile bend and play fetch in the water. He is very friendly and we have never had any issues with him ever. The only "problem" we have ever had is he is seriously addicted to tennis balls. He would play fetch 24hrs a day if it were possible. He listens very well and absolutely loves kids. He is able to obey commands such as "sit" "down" "up" "no" Where's your ball?" and "kisses" Since he loves swimming so much we got him his own kiddie pool as well and during the hot summer days he will sit in it for hours. Now since we are expecting twins he has been very protective of me, always near by and actually licks my tummy whenever he can! Thank you so much for Henry, he has been nothing but pure joy from the moment we first brought him home.

Peanut I just wanted to send an update on Peanut (aka Reese) who will be turning 1 on August 13. She is doing wonderful, and as you can see from the pictures, she loves water. We discovered her love of the water one evening while we were bathing her. That was still in the winter, so once the summer came, we got her a pool to play in. Twice a week, we will take a 1 hour drive so that we can go play in the river. Yet another one of her favorite things to do.
She is such a smart little girl, and picks up on new things very quickly. She knows each and every one of her toys by name and will find that toy on command. She is such a loving dog, and we are so very glad to have her in our lives. Thanks again to her foster mom, Cheryl, for taking such good care of her before we adopted her.

Tacoma While working a fundraising booth at the Benalto Rodeo July 07, our volunteers ran into Buddy, formally known as Tacoma and his family! They had this to say about the newest member of their family. "We are so pleased to get such a great dog from Paws and Claws Animal Rescue. He is great with the kids, so friendly and protective, Buddy loves to travel especially sitting by dad. He has been such a nice addition to my family." Michelle and Guy

Aniken My husband and I adopted "Aniken" one of the troopers, April of 2006. We have since then changed his name to Kaos. And Chaos we have! But in a very charming, lovable way. We couldn't have asked for a better companion. We love him dearly. He loves his daily walks and hiking with his family. He is a very spoiled pup, but very deserving of it! He kind and very eager to please. He's not bad looking either. He has grown to be a big handsome gentle soul. The more people to love the better! We couldn't imagine life without him. Thank you for bringing him into our lives! Sincerly,Tania and Chad Grover

D-Fer Happy Ending! Nov 10/07 update: D-Fer is doing great!! He now just loves his snuggle up close time--I sit head to head with him and whisper sweet nothings in his ear. He was a little unsure at first, but now will put his head against mine for his snuggles. Well, as I wrote last time D-Fer is the most intelligent little man--He now knows how to open any door in the house and we have installed bolt locks everywhere. LOL He is actually allowed anywhere, but it is a little disconcerting when my grooming dog clients are playing outside after they are all cleaned up because D-Fer figured a little romp in the mud would be fun for all.. He is a character and still feels it is his responsiblity to babysit our little male pom/yorkie 2.3 lbs. Our little guy (also a rescue) was poisened with antifreeze and had to have alcohol put into him to save him. Needless to say some brain damage occured and his is not quite all there. D-Fer will actually soften a rawhide for him and place it in front of him.
D-Fer has also brought Shawn and myself closer together (literally) as you can see from the picture of our sleeping arrangement the two of us have to cuddle pretty close in order to share the bed with our furries. It is a rough life for our 3 rescues--but I think they have adjusted pretty well---Usually D-Fer sleeps on our legs as we keep the one side of the electric blanket on for the little ones and D gets to hot... But we do get back at the big puppy as our son uses him for a pillow during the day when he visits the grooming shop and wants a nap with D-Fer. Once again thank you so much for the wonderful and loving addition to our family. Life without him would be unthinkable.
Natalie, Shawn and the furries
July 7/07 Update: I sent some pics and a letter to Jodi a few weeks ago. But just to let you know, my boy is wonderful. I cannot thank Jodi enough for the awesome work she did with him and for allowing us to have him in our home. A more gentle and kind disposition I have never seen in a dog. I have groomed, trained, shown and owned dogs for over 30 years now. D-Fer is my wonder boy. He is a joy to have in our home and to have accompany us everywhere we go. I have recently started teaching obedience classes here in Vulcan and D-Fer is my example dog. He allows everyone to see his kindness and intelligence--all that he had before that was just waiting for love to bring out. He has so much love to give and never misses the chance to lay down quietly so the kids in the neighborhood can pat him and play with his soft ears. He loves to wear their sun hats, baseball hats and sunglasses. He is an absolute hit in this small town. He loves to spend his days running in and out of our basement (where my grooming shop is) and play with all the daycare dogs from giants to tinies. He always takes the time to come and lay under moms table for his loving (somehow he knows no matter how busy I am he will get his loves). I have enclosed a few pictures we have taken with our camera phone. The dogs he is with are my tiny 2 pound pom/yorkies. He is so gentle and sweet even with them. They share the same bowl and beds, he plays so gently with them and loves to have them sleep on him. He even allows them to take bones and rawhide right out of his mouth. He is amazing and I can't say thank you thank you thank you enough for allowing this amazing, sweet, loving, and sooooo intelligent angel into our lives. Thank you, all our love, Natalie, D-Fer, Shawn and Family.

We are happy to report that Draven (formerly Skipper of the Castaways) has become a happy member of our family. Although Molly (the orange dog) was a bit hesitant about having a new friend in the house, she really warmed up to him after a month or so. All 3 of our dogs (Spud, Drave, and Molly) get along great now and spend 2+ hours each morning running and playing in the field together on their walk.
Draven is a big boy... already 80lbs at 10 months, and like his sibling Kasey (formerly Gilligan), needs a lot of exercise. He is the sweetest most gentle boy you'll ever meet and loves to give kisses. He is very social with both people and dogs. He has a beautiful soft coat that is made up of a multitude of of gorgeous colours. Due to the curl of his tail, his general behaviour and looks, and the fact he will not bark unless it is important, we believe he is part Akita. He loves to be active, but is also content to laze around... a very versatile dog! He has become an irreplaceable part of our family, and everyone enjoys his company.... people and dogs alike! I hope to see updates on all his siblings on here, as I am very curious about
what they all grew up to look like! Augusta Reinich, Draven and the rest of the Reinich Family

Hi Shannon: We were heart-broken last year when our 12 year old dog died. The house was too empty and it was only the day after that we knew we needed to hear the pitter-patter of paws in the kitchen again. We met the Castaways and Gilligan really stood out – he was the only one that was a different colour! He was renamed Kasey. The kids adore him, he loves a good scratch, he needs A LOT of walking (between 2-3 hours a day) to keep his mischievous side in check, and we LOVE him. We really are looking forward to the hiking season so we’ve been training him with his own pack. He’s now 10 months old and 80 pounds. We’re not totally sure about his breed but we’re convinced there’s a sled dog in there somewhere!
Sincerely,The Phillips (the puppy pic is the day after he came home with us)

Just your happy Rossland dog owners writing to say that we are happily embarking towards summer and with that our little Uncha is now... ur... missing a few things.... that's right, we got him neutered this week!
Uncha and Mr. Tibbs are still the best of friends! We often wonder what we did with just one dog! They play fight and play fight and play fight in the yard. On walks they chase after each other up and down the mountains, it is so fun to watch!
Thanks again for everything Janet! Rita and Dallas

Chewy : Chewy arrived two years ago for us to foster, in mid-December of 2004. He arrived with his mother Kalyssa and his six brothers and sisters. The puppies were only two weeks old when they arrived, and they had terrible sarcoptic mange which made them itch terribly until they received treatment from the vet.
Chewy and his litter were found by children on the reserve, under the steps of an abandonded house. They told one of our volunteers, who went and got them right away, before the temperature dropped to -40 oC that evening.
Chewy was chosen first in his litter, and was adopted out as soon as he was old enough to leave his mother. He had ideas of his own, however, and cried steadily at his new home. They kindly brought him back as they feared his distress would damage him. We could not bring ourselves to part with him again, knowing how attached he was to us and how much we adored him.
Chewy comes by his name honestly; he managed to chew every chair leg, lamp cord, curling iron, hair dryer and pair of glasses in his vicinity. Nothing was safe with Chewy, not even items on the kitchen counter like knives and apple pies!
Despite all his little quirks, we wouldn't trade Chewy for any other dog!
Tish and Ken

I wanted to send you our Happy Ending story (beginning really).
We adopted "Mo", of the three stooges litter, from Jodi in October 2006. We changed his name to Finley. He joined our family of Abby the old dog (10 years), Charlie the Cat, my husband and I.
Finley is smart, extremely loveable and happy. He's been through basic obedience training and he did wonderfully - he's a pleasure on a leash. He is starting Agility Training next and I know he will love it - he's very trainable and loves the attention. I can't believe how calm and collected he has been & still is. I've never known a puppy to be such a pleasure and I've had lots of experience! He's turned into a real looker too and is very popular at the vet clinic and the offleash park!
We want to thank everyone at Paws & Claws! You guys do such a great job. We would never have met this little devil-dog without you. He's an angel really and we all love him!
Jennifer, Richard, Abby, Charlie & Fin
PS. About a month after we adopted Fin we found out he's becoming an uncle! Our first baby is due July 10th and we are so excited that he & the baby will get to grow together.

Bryson : Shannon, I thought you might enjoy some pictures of Nash (Formally Bryson). As
you can see, he is a very healthy, handsome and happy puppy. The last trip
to the vet put him at 67.7 lbs.
He has gone to puppy classes and knows how to sit, lay down, stand, stay,
crawl, rollover, bow, shake a paw. We are going to do the next set of
obedience classes in April 2007.

Scarlet :
I couldn't resist sending you this picture of Scarlet at her graduation from school. We're so proud of her. She really was at the top of her class. Despite her humble start in life, she is smarter than all those "fancy" dogs. When we attempted off-leash walking, all the other dogs were running amuck, but little Scarlet stayed right by my side! If you look closely, you can see she is wearing a little graduation cap with a tassle on the side.
We put the pups in separate classes so Blossom will not graduate until April. I'll be sure to send you her graduation picture. She, too, is at the top of her class. She is very eager to please and loves her training sessions.
Both of the pups really like to work and have great focus. I'm starting to think there's some border collie in them. Scarlet's fur is very border collie-like. It's long and wavy. Her tail, face-shape and ears are like a border collie's and she moves a bit like one too.
The school they attend offers alot of other classes and I'm going to enrol them in further obedience and some fun stuff like K9 IQ and Scent Work. We wanted to send out a couple of photos of them but we've taken about 500 in the last 3 months and there's no way we could settle on one or two, so we've made a little 3 minute video of their progress from 11 to 26 weeks. I've included the link if you would like to see it....click here! I hope all is well with all of you. Thank-you again for blessing us with these beautiful little pups who we love so much. Sue and Trent

Willow : Our family adopted Willow in the fall of 2006. Willow is a wonderful addition to our family. We just had Willow spayed and we would like to donate our spay/neuter incentive to The Paws and Claws Animal Foundation.
Willow started obedience training about 4 weeks ago and she's catching on very quickly, which is a good thing because she tends to take you for a walk rather than the other way around. Thanks again for a wonderful, healthy dog!
Thank you to Shae Godden and family for donating their spay/neuter deposit back to Paws and Claws!

I adopted Dozer (formally Sherlock) this summer. Being a teacher I was home for 2 months with him and he got pretty spoiled. He is now a huge mama's boy and doesn't like to be too far away from me. He is ver very energetic and very happy. We like to spend our weekends at the dog park where we have made many new friends and often run into Gloria and her dog, often followed by a few rescued pups! Dozer loves his new sister ,Keoni (my 7 year old cat), dearly and is always trying to give her kisses and play with her. Needless to say she is less than thrilled with the extra affection. Hopefully they will grow to be best friends. Thanks so much
for bringing Dozer into our lives!! We wish you many sucessfull matches in the years to come. And if one day my house gets bigger I'll be back!
Lots of love,
Dozer, Keoni, and Nicole

We adopted Daley (who started off as Kennedy) from Jody back in August. We just wanted to let everyone know Daly has been an exceptional companion to us. She is still showing predominately German Sheppard genes but we are now starting to see some husky colors come thru. She is coming up on 7 months of age. She has been a very early learner to date and loves the snow. I have attached a few pics of her through out the past months
We are also happy to see Daly’s mother “Mattaea” doing so well. We saw that she was adopted and she really looked a lot healthier in the pics posted on the website then when we first saw her when we picked out Daly. I believe Mattaea was picked up only a week or 2 before we saw her with her new litter. We did have Daly spade in early December but would like to donate the money back to Paws and claws. Since we live in Edmonton but are originally from Calgary we due pass thru Red Deer frequently. The winter conditions have reduced the trips we have been making the past coupler of months but we will make sure we drop by Jody’s on our way thru to say a personal thanks for all your efforts.
Thank you to Drew, Alison and Daly for donating the $100 spay/neuter incentive back to Paws and Claws!

Princess Leah : Murphie (formerly Princess Leah from the Troopers) has been awesome!!! We adopted her in May 2006. Our other dog Ellie has been thrilled to have another dog to play with. They are best buds, especially at the dog park. Murphie was a quiet girl at first but has developed quite the character. She has been a great addition to the family.

Huey : We received this email from the ambulance station:
Huey has been adopted and is now with his new family. He never made it onto the Cochrane Humane website because I found a home for him before he had even finished is eye treatments.
His eye is dead and will probably have to be removed sometime in the future but he does still have it. His new owner is actually an AHT and works for one of the specialty clinics in Calgary, so he really couldn't have gone to a better home.
He is an awesome dog and has made himself right at home with his new family. I attached a couple pictures for you so you could see what his eye was like the day I brought him home with me (about 2 days after he came back injured) and another one just before he went to his new home a couple of weeks ago. I healed really nice but it is to bad we couldn't save it. Click here for Huey's Profile
Titan Just wanted to check in and let you know how much we love having Titan as part of our family. Everyone is just crazy about him - even the cats - which is just as it should be because he is such a friendly, loving boy. In the two months that we've had him he's blended into the family extremely well and we are amazed at how smart and responsive he is - we feel lucky to be able to share our lives with him. Titan was recently neutered but we would appreciate it if you would keep the $100.00 fee and use it to help some other dog or cat. Thanks again to everyone - especially his foster mom Cheryl - for allowing Titan into our lives. Titan and Ariel (his 10 year old sister) out for their morning run in the country.
Thank you very much Karen-Anne Deltombe for donating the $100 spay/neuter incentive to Paws and Claws!

Sonny Hi All!! Just wanted to let you know that Sonny (now known as Dodger) is doing great! He is a great addition to our family. He came to us house trained and leash trained and we have had very few accidents. Thanks to foster mom Cheryl for all of the work she did with him. He has such a great temperament and is a very smart and lovable puppy!

Honey and Kayley - The "girls" have a wonderful life like being at home, but LOVE going up to our place at Gleniffer Lake. They are outside all day long and love to swim in the lake... well ok, Honey loves to swim in the lake, Kayley loves to suntan !!!
This was taken this past Thanksgiving. Honey looks much bigger than Kayley in the picture, well, she is, but not that much... but it was a cute picture so we thought we'd send it.. and I've attached another one while they are waiting for directions on when they can get their bones !!!

Please find attached a picture of Lily, formerly Brook. She's a lovely dog, and we quite missed on her breed when we adopted. We had thought that she was a rottweiler/shepherd mix, but now that she's full grown, we think she's an Australian cattle dog. She is a lovely girl with a sweet disposition, always looking to snuggle up on the couch. We love her very much, and she took her spaying very well. We waive our reimbursement, and wish you well for the upcoming year. Thanks for all that you do.

Peanut, who is now known as Reese, is such a happy, playful puppy and she is getting bigger and bigger every day. We went to the vet last week and she weighed 22 pounds already. She learned to go outside to relieve herself within the first week (there are almost no accidents in the house now). And not long after that, learned to sit when told. We were amazed at the tricks she started doing all on her own such as Hi-5 and shake a paw. So we put the names to them so she would associate them with what she was doing. Although when it comes to getting a treat, the Hi-5 is the first thing she will do, even if we just want her to sit. She loves our daily walks and even knows when we usually go. If I'm not ready by our usual time, she waits at the front door and whines to let me know it's time to go. She is teaching us just as much as we are teaching her at this point. We are so glad that we have her in our lives and now we couldn't imagine ever being without her. Thank you Paws and Claws.

We adopted Nala from Paws and Claws when she was about 8 weeks old. The same day, our friends, Brad and Aleia and daughter Sierra, adopted Scuttle; Nala's brother. Nala has grown up into a wonderful companion and member of our family. She's a happy and healthy dog who gets lot of love and attention; and lots of exercise too, thanks to Beverly, who takes her on long walks twice a day. We took her to puppy pre-school during the summer and she had a great time. During the summer we got together with Brad and Aleia and Sierra a few times and Nala and Scuttle would always have a great crazy-run-around play-time. She's a great dog. Thank you very much!
