Huge thanks to Deb P. for her consistent dedication to exercising and socializing our rescue dogs in Red Deer! This volunteer runs the dogs many times each week, cleans their runs, and ensures the rescues get lots of loving! The foster home can take in so many more dogs since Deb can be counted on to help. Thanks Crazy Woman!!

Congratulations Melissa and Cameron! Paws and Claws is grateful for your kindness to our rescues; they gave Paws and Claws a substantial donation in lieu of wedding favours. The four-legged "unofficial bridesmaid" is Shyla; she has been with Melissa since childhood! Shyla walked Melissa up the aisle on her wedding day, though it wasn't planned. Our volunteers think Shyla is a lovely and perfectly loyal attendant!

Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation would like to thank the Red Deer SPCA for inviting us to have a booth at their Pawsitively Gorgeous dog beauty contest event held Saturday, March 15, at the Bower Place Shopping Centre. Our volunteers had fun watching all the entries.
We held a raffle to raise money for our Spay Program. We had two prizes; the beautiful handmade afghan was won by L. Sutherland. The lotto bear was won by Allen S.!
Generous passers-by who purchased tickets have made spaying another five females possible!
Many thanks to Marilyn S. of Red Deer for her beautiful handiwork; she gifted us the gorgeous afghan!
Our raffle raised enough money for us to spay four female dogs on the Sunchild and O'Chiese Reserves. This will prevent up to 26 000 unwanted puppies from being born into Alberta in the next five years!
Thank you SPCA!
January 2008
Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation would like to thank Ms. Penner's Dance 15 Class at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School for choosing our charity to be one of the recipients of their dance recital proceeds!
These talented students raised $110 for Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation. This money will spay a dog from the Sunchild or O'Chiese Reserves. Spaying one female prevents the birth of up to 6500 unwanted puppies over a five year period. Their contribution will prevent a tremendous amount of suffering.
One of our volunteers attended their recital, and was extremely impressed by everyone's performance. Their dedication to dancing shone through!
Thanks again Lindsay Thurber Dance 15!
December 2007
Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation would like to express its gratitude to Hailey. This kind hearted young person went on an enormous blanket drive to collect comfortable bedding for our rescues. She is pictured surrounded by the bags and bags of blankets she rounded up.
Hailey's dedication to help our little rescues will provide a great deal of comfort to animals (who have experienced little of it in their lives). Thank you Hailey!!

Paws and Claws would like to thank Sammy Kooter and his owner Amanda Merrier of Sylvan Lake.
Sammy and Amanda donated Sammys Christmas presents to the less fortunate animals in our care. Items included 2 bags of dog food, 1 bag cat food, 2 bags dog treats, 2 packs of rawhides treats, 3 stuffed toys, 2 packs of tennis balls and a large bag of dog bone treats.
We would also like to thank
Woof and Purrs. They sent leashes collars and a receiver for radio fence.
Merry Christmas Sammy and Amanda and all the best in 2008!
November 2007
Paws and Claws would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Dawn C. in Bowden! She found our former rescue, Sunshine, running about in her town. Sunshine was adopted out from us over a year ago.
Dawn rescued Sunshine from a busy street and looked after her all day while she searched for Sunshine's home. Sunshine was spotted by a vehicle while Dawn took her out to do her business!
Turns out Sunshine's people travel to and from Calgary, and father-in-law was caring for Sunshine when she went on an adventure! Everyone was thrilled to be re-united.
Thanks to both Tish and Dawn for spending much of their day on the phone! We appreciate your kind, caring heart Dawn!
August 2007
Our rescue dogs and cats have a great deal more comfort in their lives
thanks to Colleen G. of Strathcona County! Colleen has been doing some
major scavenging for blankets, sleeping bags, comforters, towels, pillows,
and stuffies for our rescues. She also sent along some cat accoutrements,
an x-pen, and a crate! Her bounty completely filled one of our
volunteer's SUV; in fact, the last bag needed a foot to cram it in.
Colleen tells us that this is just the beginning... we can't wait to see
what she is going to acquire next!

Many thanks to Leona Phillips for donating a dog crate in memory of Mufffin. We will put this crate to good use bringing needy puppies into care.

Thank you so much to Gary and Maggie H. of Red Deer! One of our volunteers was shopping at their garage sale and came across an enormous covered garbage can on wheels. These cost well over a hundred dollars new; however, when Maggie found out that it would be used as the "poop duty" wagon, she gave it to the animal rescue for free! Thank you for making one of our volunteer's lives immensely easier!

Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation would like to thank Doggy Doo Removal for generously helping out at our largest foster home operation.
Doggy Doo Removal gives one of our amazing foster parents a break!
Doggy Doo Removal... they "doo" it for you!
If you're in the Red Deer area, give Doggy Doo Removal a call at (403) 341-5151 or e-mail doggydooremoval@shaw.ca. Their rates are very reasonable, and make a welcome gift for the dog lover in your life!
July 2007
Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation would like to thank Bonnie Tjernqvist for her generous Paypal donation of $100.00! We were checking our account and we saw her name, we instantly recognized it and that she had emailed not too long ago wanting to help. Your contribution to the animals our charity serves will do a great deal to diminish suffering. Your gift allows us to spay a female dog, thus preventing 6500 unwanted dogs from being born over the next five years. You have prevented a tremendous amount of suffering. Thank you!!

Paws and Claws would like to thank Max and Dakota for their $20.00 donation (they wanted to help out dogs less fortunate than themselves)! Max is a Rotti cross and Dakota us a miniature American Eskimo, these much loved dogs belong to Bev Brattson of Sylvan Lake. Thank you so much for your donation!

Paws and Claws would like to thank Candace Leggett and family for their $200 donation. They donated this money in loving memory of Candace's father, Ken Allen. Candace’s father recently passed away, and this is money the family received in cards. Since both Candace and her dad shared a love of dogs, she suggested donating the money to Paws and Claws. Our hearts go out to Candace and her family in their time of grief. God bless you and your family. This thoughtful legacy will prevent a tremendous amount of animal suffering.

Thank you to the family that adopted Carlito. They had Carlito neutered in February, we received a copy of his vet certificate with a request that they would like to donate his $100 spay/neuter deposit back to our organization. We will use this money to alter a female dog living on the First Nations Communities in which we serve; this will prevent countless numbers of unwanted puppies to be born. Thank you!
January 2007

December 2006
We would like to thank everyone who has helped us fulfill our mission throughout this very busy year.We have been able to find loving homes for 188 dogs and 4 cats in 2006 and thank all of the adoptive PetParents.
Thank you to all of our foster parents, Brandie, Cheryl, Gloreen, Gloria, Janet, Jodi, Polly, Shannon and Tish, without our dedicated foster parents we would not have been able to achieve our success. Everyone has put their heart and soul into taking ill and malnourished puppies into their homes and giving them a second chance in life. We all fall in love with the puppies and dogs that we foster and it is one of the hardest and at the same time one of the most rewarding things when they finally find forever homes.
Our spay and neuter program would not have been possible without the dedication of Janet, Jodi and Parkland Veterinary Hospistal in Red Deer. Our Vet bills for 2006 were over $16,000, and would have been significantly higher without the amazing discount Parkland Vet offers our organization.
Thank you to Vic, Sara and Jaylene, as well as Gloreen, Lori and Louella for your dedication to raising funds at the Red Deer Farmer's Market throughout the summer and at our ongoing Safeway partnership program. Your efforts have not only raised much needed funds but also have raised awareness about our organization.
Keeping this organization running also requires lots of administrative work. Thanks to Gloria our financials are in order, and thanks to Shannon this website is being kept updated.
And last but not least we would like to thank all of the wonderful people that have donated funds, including our amazing corporate sponsors, who helped our organization fulfull it's mandate. We have had an outpouring of financial support, especially throughout this Holiday Season.
Paws and Claws would like to thank Brynn, Hannah, Simon, Bryan, Marie, and Amy Geake, and Sienna and Emily Snow for their very generous $100 donation! Following is the email we received from their Aunt:
I found your site by accident one day while I was looking for rescue societies, and was very impressed by the work you are doing, and the respectful manner in which you are partnering with the First Nation Peoples to help the dogs who live with them. We recently got a dog through NASAP, and while I was looking at possible dogs to adopt, I also saw your site. I believe that what you do is making a tremendous difference, and I was touched by the stories of the puppies and dogs and those that have helped you rescue them.
This year, we were told that our nieces and nephews had everything they needed, so they didn't really need Christmas presents from us. We know that they all really love animals, so we made a donation to your organization in their name instead of Christmas presents. They were happy to know that they would be helping a puppy or a dog that was in need.

Paws and Claws would like to thank Carla for her very generous $50 donation. Not only did she donate, she also adopted a dog from us! Please read the following:
Your welcome for the donation..I was MORE than happy to donate. I recently adopted "Georgina" from Polly and have had a wonderful time helping her adjust. Please keep up the good work. Also, please don't hesitate to email or call if you need something and are really in a bind....I would like to help out more I'm just not sure how. Happy New Year and All the Best to everyone at Paws and Claws!
.October 2006

Paws and Claws would like thank our Corporate Sponsor Sign Craft Digital Imaging in Calgary for donating the money to have Bear Spayed! We are so very happy that the kindness of others has given her the opportunity to be the sweet girl that she is! She will be able to enjoy a full puppyhood and never have to worry about puppies of her own!!

Trent and Sue deGoesbriand said they were inspired by the love and dedication with which Paws and Claws is approaching the enormous task that lies before us and were
moved by the stories of all our beautiful precious dogs that come through the system and they wanted to help out!
So when Trent and Sue with SignCraft Digital Imaging read on our website that we are always seeking straw bales so dogs on the reserves can be built shelters and receive protection from the bitter cold. On October 29, 2006 the deGoesbriands with friend Sheila McConney came with a giant load of one hundred straw bales from Calgary!
Click Here for Video Clip of this amazing act of kindness.
This was an ugly cold Sunday, and the roads were terribly icy. They passed many cars in the ditches on the trip; however, they persevered several hours for the dogs they so wanted to help.
Sue, Trent and Shelia met our volunteers in Red Deer, and presented a bounty that still has us in shock. This marvelous couple took it upon themselves to recruit helpers and gather donations of all kinds from their friends and family! They brought dog and cat food and toys, treats, pet beds, blankets, towels, shampoos, and grooming tools. The deGoesbriands collected cash donations as well that totaled over $1700!
Larry & Wendy Findlay donated $100.00 plus 4 large bags of food and 10 beds approx value $300
Erhard & Wanda Sommerfeld's 11 year old daughter Nicole saw our website and felt so stongly she has donated her allowance ($30.00)! Thank you to our little dog angel Nicole!
Rob & Lorrie Closson $200.00 plus approx $400 worth of supplies which included blankets, beds, shampoo, collars, leashes and treats. (Rob and Lorrie attempted to supply some of everything on the wish list. They poured their hearts out and gave and gave.)
Jim & Theresa Mompere $100.00
Kelly Gardner $50.00
Dedrha Ripley $20.00
Brenda Granger $20.00
Gwen Curkin $40.00
Michael Fox $100.00
Ryan Sims $20.00
Douglas & Jayne Osborne $50.00
Lorena Plato $20.00
Barbara & James Bateman $50.00
Sheila McConney $100.00
Cash Misc. Donations $11.38
Cash donations exceeding $900 which were MATCHED by SignCraft Digital for a total of $1,723.38!!
They then hauled the bales out to the O’Chiese and Sunchild Reserves, another two hours farther. The group spent many hours on the reserves distributing bales and food to families. Loading and unloading dogs to be spayed and puppies coming into care took lots of time as well. By the time they drove back to Jodi’s in Red Deer to unload the animals and tackled the long icy road home to Calgary, it was in the wee hours when they returned home. To read more about this please click here.

Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation had a wonderful time at the Edmonton Fall Woman's Show October 14 and 15th! We
met lots of fellow animal lovers, and raised enough money to spay several female dogs that live on the Sunchild and O'Chiese Reserves through our raffle. The first prize was a stuffed dog covered in raffle tickets... the winner was Tammy Leeb. Good luck with those tickets Tammy! Second prize was a one hour massage at ... Pause Therapeutic Massage. The winner was Denise Liviniuk. Paws and Claws is very grateful to Lori at ... Pause Therapeutic Massage for donating her time and effort to our charity. Third prize was $50 worth of Avon skin care products. The winner was Janice Trudeau. We thank Bonnie Bilawchuk for her generous donation!
We would like to thank everyone who stopped by our booth at the Womans Show in Edmonton on October 14th and 15th. We would like to thank Kim Crooks of Sherwood Park for her $20 donation, Holly Mueller from Rimbey for her $40 donation and Brainna Melo from Edmonton for her $20 donation!
Paws and Claws would like to thank Sharron Leclerc of St. Albert for her very generous donation! Sharron said that after finding our website and reading about all the wonderful things we do with the pets it was pretty hard not to donate some money for the cause. She has two of her own, a Rotweiller and a 3.5 lb. Yorkie who thinks she's a Rotweiller!!! We will put Sharron's $40 donation to good use, in our spay/neuter account. Thanks to people like Sharron we are able to make a difference in the lives of so many dogs on the reserve!
September 2006
Paws and Claws would like thank the Strong family who adopted our little Bree. She is doing great! They have sent us her spay certificate and have donated the $100.00 spay/neuter deposit to to our society as a token of their appreciation. Thank you very much!

Paws and Claws would like to thank a very kind veterinarian, Dr. Lisa Loewen of the Deer Park Pet Hospital, who donated her services and did Sunshine's amputation operation for free! This operation would normally cost upwards of $1300.00. Had she not received this operation, she would have suffered debilitating arthritis in the leg as she aged. This is a wonderful gift to our charity; our meagre funds will instead be channelled into spaying the females on the two reserves. Paws and Claws volunteers are very grateful to our generous benefactor!
August 2006
Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation is extremely grateful to the Hermitage Veterinary Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. This generous clinic spayed Foxy and Nugget for free. This gift is huge for our small non-profit rescue; the spay procedure itself will prevent up to 13,000 unwanted puppies from being born in the next five years. Thanks again to the wonderful staff at the Hermitage Veterinary Hospital!

A HUGE thank you goes out to Koren Wright for her generosity and genuine love of animals!! Koren donated 2 - 20lb bags of Purina puppy chow and a big bag full of tennis balls, squeaky toys and treats for all the pups!! She also gave us two new collars for the adult dogs we have and two oh so soft Blankets for the hounds!! Koren you are a dog angel for sure and we won't forget you kindness!! Thank-you again and we look forward to seeing you when it is the right time for you!!

Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation would like to thank our awe-inspiring foster parent Jodi. We do not have a permanent shelter, therefore, we can only rescue as many animals as we have foster homes for. When volunteers go out to the reserves, we call the foster parents to see how many animals they can accommodate.
Jodi is the one who simply says, "Yup. Bring 'em!" Jodi has set up several kennels and has recruited her amazing family's help. (Huge thanks also to Tim, Hudson, Alanna, and Carissa). The beautiful pictures of her foster babes are taken by Jodi herself. Many dogs owe their lives to Jodi; she has adopted out SEVENTY dogs since February!!

Paws and Claws received a call from Lorna Hansen, she adopted Skye in May. She has had her spayed and would like to donate the incentive back to us. We would like to thank her for her generosity; with this money we will be able to spay a female dog on the reserve to prevent more unwanted pups. Thank you Lorna!

Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation is a non-profit registered charity; we receive no government funding. Paws and Claws is run entirely by volunteers, so we can make a dollar go a long long way toward helping dogs and cats! It made our dedicated volunteers so happy to receive Linda Pekrul's $25 donation. This money Linda gave Paws and Claws will provide a veterinary examination and vaccinations for a needy animal. Thank you Linda!!

We would like to extend a big thank you to Sharon Clark for her very generous donation of $100! You can be assured that it will be put to good use. We are actually able to vaccinate 3 puppies with this amount of money. When you and are ready for a 4 legged larger furry friend we hope you keep us in mind and look us up. Thanks again Sharon!

Thank you and congratulations to Jackie Kupsch! This cute dog duo "Shiloh & Isabel" won the most website-visitor votes in the photo contest! Jackie kindly donated her $100 cash prize back to Paws and Claws!
Issy and Shiloh are both rescues, as are their 3 cats; therefore they entered the contest with the idea that if they won they would donate the money back to Paws and Claws. Jackie and her fiancée enjoyed recruiting people to vote for the girls knowing that every new person who visited the site could spread the word about this important cause.
Jackie thanked us for giving us a forum to share their girls' photo and promised us that Shiloh and Issy will get a special treat tonight for being such kind girls for donating their money to help other animals. They are going to start taking pictures for next year's contest, which we all hope will take place!

Paws and Claws would like to thank every single person who entered a picture in our pet photo contest; they are all adorable! Paws and Claws volunteers are relieved we didn't have to choose the winner, as it was impossible for us to pick from such equally sweet photos. Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation's photo contest raised enough money to have two female dogs on the reserves our mandate serves spayed. With the prize-winners donating their $100 back to the organization we will be able to spay a third! This will prevent up to nineteen thousand five hundred unwanted dogs from being born in the next five years.

A big THANK YOU to Cheryl Schneidmiller with Coldwell Banker Trails West Realty in Sundre for sponsoring Paws and Claws' Photo Contest!
July 2006
Thank you to Colleen and Gary in Sylvan Lake for the donation of nice warm very much needed blankets.
Colleen and Gary adopted "Carlton" from Paws and Claws then later adopted "Berkley" for a companion for Carlton.
Colleen assures us that they love these guys so much, and that Berkley was the perfect match for Carleton and they are such a hoot to have. To say these two guys are spoiled rotten is an understatement!

Thank you to Carol Silver for the donation of cat food, brushes, treats, grooming powder and hair ball solutions. Thank you to Kathy Coughlin for the donation of leashes, collars, and dog brushes. This is awesome ladies, these are items that we can always use! Thank you for thinking of us !
June 2006
We would like extend our thanks to Lori Pitcher. Lori adopted Annie back in Feburary and is donating $50 of the spay/neuter incentive back to Paws and Claws. This is very generous of Lori, thank you so much!

We would also like to thank Laura Lee and Terry from Blackfalds for donating and delivering a very large dog house as well as two crates. A thank you also goes out to Terri Jardine in Sylvan Lake for the donation of 3 cat crates and an electronic coin counter. This will make counting change from the donation tins much easier, thank you Terri! Paws and Claws would also like to extend our condolences to Andrew in Edmonton who recently lost his best friend of 7 years. Andrew kindly donated left over dog food to Paws and Claws. Thank you for thinking of us in your time of sorrow.
May 2006

Paws and Claws volunteers drove into a yard to find a family moving. The girl who lived there was concerned about her dog, who had just had nine puppies. She wanted to make sure the puppies and their mother were healthy and went to good homes. One of the volunteers personally promised to give momma-dog and her babies a good home until they were all found wonderful forever-homes.
The three volunteers who visited the reserve were so impressed by the maturity and responsibility displayed by this young woman. She had the best interests of the dogs at heart, and wanted them to come into care.
Her friend also tried to find a young dog she thought needed to come into the Paws and Claws system, but despite extensive searching could not locate it. We will try again to find this dog on our next trip out. These two girls also helped us catch another frightened, skittish stray dog. It took hours to catch her, but they persevered and were ultimately successful. Thanks to their efforts, this dog will not end up feral, having litter after litter of unwanted puppies.
We are naming two of the female puppies after these two lovely girls. Thanks so much girls- you are truly dog angels!

Paws and Claws would like to extend our sympathy to Margaret in Olds for the loss of her family pet. Margaret has kindly
donated
her dogs food, bowls and large water pails, etc. This gift will outfit a foster family with our system to care for a dog.
Many thanks to Kathy in Spruce Grove for her help in increasing traffic to our web page! The increase in exposure will spread
awareness
of our cause as well as provide a larger potential pool of adoptive families. This will mean that dogs will find homes far more quickly making room for us to take in another dog or puppy. Kathy's efforts will increase the total number of critters we are able to save each year. Thank you Kathy for all your hard work!

We would like extend our thanks to Scott and Shirley, they adopted Sienna from Paws and Claws last year. This lovely couple built a house with an attached dog run for Sienna and kindly donated the old dog run to Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Foundation. We were delighted to receive it! The ability to contain a dog will enable another person to foster for us. Scott was very kind in delivering the run right to us!

On Saturday May the 6th Paws and Claws volunteers took a trip to the First Nations Communities West of Rocky Mountain House. We distributed dog food and other supplies to the dogs on the Reserve. While we were gathering up Bella and her babies, we met a very nice man named Christopher Clinton Yellowface. He told us about a little stay pup he had seen the night before. He said his heart went out to this little puppy, as it was on its own without a Mom to protect him. He said we had to find that puppy and take it in as well. Christopher said he had last seen the pup way on the North End of the Reserve and if he could hop in with us he would help us locate it. The pup was not at the location where Christopher had last seen him but people there told us where we might find it. At last we found him- he was missing fur due to mange and was starving. We named this little guy “Ollie”! Christopher Clinton Yellowface stayed with us the rest of the day, and helped us by carrying heavy bags of dog food to different locations throughout the reserve. It was a pleasure to meet Christopher. I believe that little “Ollie” owes his life to this kind man, as we would not have discovered him otherwise. Christopher is truly a Dog Angel.

Thank you to Leanne and Joe White, Sadie's new parents! They adopted her, knowing of her medical condition and are willing to do what ever it takes to make her healthy. They live on an acreage and have four cats (2 of which were rescued) and one dog (also a rescue animal). Leanne generously donated alot of items for Paws and Claws. Our prayers have been answered for Sadie to have found such loving, caring people. Joe and Leanne also made a $200.00 cash donation to Paws and Claws. I tell you, they don't come any better than these people!

Thank you to PetSmart in Red Deer, Alberta - PetSmart's Adoption Weekend, May 5,6 & 7th was a great success! Many dogs and cats across Canada found homes during this event. Paws and Claws volunteers visited the Red Deer PetSmart with our puppies. The pups captured many hearts with their adorable personalities and sweet faces. PetSmart is passionate about pets. They believe that every pet should have a loving family and healthy, happy life. It is for this reason, they made a conscious decision to not sell cats or dogs. Rather, they dedicate space in every store to more than 3,400 local animal welfare organizations to help homeless dogs and cats find loving homes. Click here for more information how PetSmart is making a difference for Pets!

Thank you Debi Edginton! Paws and Claws is so sad that we are losing one of our cornerstone volunteers due to a work-related transfer. We could always rely on Debi (and her wonderful family) to take in the hard luck cases. Debi has a huge heart, and has opened her home to some very desperate cases of animal abuse and neglect. She nursed them back to health and prepared them for adoption. Doing this takes a huge toll emotionally as well as physically, but Debi has always been up to the challenge. In addition to everything else she does, Debi goes on the radio every morning and promotes our organization, raising awareness of our cause. We will miss you desperately, Debi, but know that needy animals near your new home will benefit greatly. Thank you.

P.I.T. (Professional Integrated Technologies) A huge thankyou to Stu Gillis and his crew of mighty dog angels who enthusiastically donate their own time to pick up tons of donated dog food, transport it to Sylvan Lake, and stack it very neatly then tarp it against the weather. We are very grateful for all the time and energy donated to Paws and Claws.
Thank you to the Sylvan Lake News for donating our weekly "Featured Pet of the Week" ad.
Pete Swales of Massage Above All who has generously donated certificates for a free massage for a variety of draws and raffles, over the years. Pete has also massaged some of our dogs who needed his gentle touch to help them recover from injuries.

Happy Birthday to a very special young man from all of us at Paws and Claws Animal Rescue. For Braidyn's 10th birthday party in leiu of gifts, he has asked everyone to bring a donation of a used blanket, dog food, toys, etc, so that he can give something back to the dogs he loves so much. He currently does not have a dog, due to the restrictions of a rental agreement. Braidyn is seen here with his Mom with the items raised along with $65.00 from his party. Braiden got to meet some of the puppies in our care and we explained to him what his donation will mean to the dogs in need. Thank you so much Braidyn, you are truely a dog angel!
